Effective international institutions

National flags of EU countries.

We're working to promote international institutions such as the European Union and the United Nations to help us meet the opportunities and challenges of our globalised world.

Our Strategy

We want international institutions to be reformed to better tackle 21st century challenges such as climate change, international financial markets, weapons proliferation and international terrorism.  The international scene is uncertain and fluid with many issues overlapping.  Most of the problems we face need different responses at different levels.

We believe institutions will not be reformed fast enough to meet these new challenges unless we all work together.

We urgently need a 'global dialogue' on the:

  • need to reform international institutions
  • global challenges we must address and possible solutions
  • practical ways to achieve this.

To do this we need an environment where these ideas and interests can be constructively discussed as widely as possible.  This dialogue needs to be a genuinely broad and inclusive process, involving all parts of society.

Supporting an effective system for multilateral co-operation, based on international law, is the best way to maximise our influence in the world and solve the global problems before us.

Listed below are the many different international and European organisations the UK works with:

United Nations (UN)
