UK Company Tangerine Designs Airbus A380 Cabins
Asiana Airlines, one of Asia's leading operators, has appointed UK company tangerine to review the offer and design of the first class, business class and travel cabins for its new fleet of Airbus A380 aircraft. Design teams in tangerine's London and Seoul studios have already started work on the prestigious project.

Pauley Innovation launches unique dual-screen A3 Tablet Book

Pauley Innovation has created a new concept in tablet design with their A3 Tablet Book, a dual-screen tablet computer that unfolds from A4 to A3 format. The Milton Keynes- and London-based company is in pre-production discussions with potential manufacturers in Germany, India and the USA about the device.

The new A3 Tablet Book designed by Phil Pauley is the next step forward in personal computing, playing video games, watching TV or movies, listening to music or simply staying connected through interactive media and email.

Jedco irons out luggage launch for start-up Commuter Technologies
Jedco Product Designers has designed a travel luggage product that protects perfectly-ironed shirts when the owner commutes, whether by plane, train, car – or even by bike. The Shirt Shuttle is a lightweight, slimline, water-resistant luggage product that fits into a laptop bag, commuter’s backpack, pannier bag or traveller’s suitcase – making it the perfect travelling companion.

Shirt Shuttle’s launch coincides with the growing popularity of cycling to work, and its success spurred the launch of Commuter Technologies, a new business dedicated to developing products that meet the needs of the modern traveler.

DMA’s Radiant spotlight is on the right track
London-based Industrial Design consultancy David Morgan Associates (DMA) has designed the Micro Track LED track lighting system for the Radiant division of Belfer Lighting in the United States. The product – one of the smallest section low voltage track systems available – is for use in retail display cabinets, museums and residential applications.

The innovative Radiant Micro Track LED system is ideal for the illumination of sensitive materials such as cosmetics, jewellery, leather goods, silks and watches because the high-power LEDs generate so very little heat and ultraviolet light.

Factorydesign develops “a leap forward in IFE” for Intelligent Avionics
Factorydesign has designed a groundbreaking new in-flight entertainment system that promises to shake up the aviation industry. The award-winning West London design consultancy has created an innovative seatback unit developed from a prototype of Intelligent Avionics’ ultra-lightweight AURA IFE system.

Every aircraft with a legacy in-flight entertainment (IFE) system carries a failure-prone server system and seat hardware that produces between 300 to 2,200 pounds of fuel-guzzling deadweight tonnage. The AURA system does not utilise a server and is consequently far lighter and much more reliable.

London Design Festival, 17-25 September 2011. Nine amazing days of design events showcasing the UK's world-class creative community

First staged in 2003, the London Design Festival is one of the world's most important annual design events. The nine-day Festival programme is made up of over 280 events and exhibitions staged by 200 partner organisations across the design spectrum and from around the world.

The Festival is both a cultural and a commercial event. The programme ranges from major international exhibitions to trade events, installations to talks and seminars, from product launches to receptions, private views and parties. The majority of events are free of charge - enabling visitors to participate, listen, learn, commission and make purchases.

Two Edinburgh life sciences firms team up to launch new stem cell product

Deliverics has launched its second product for the global life sciences research market, after teaming up with fellow Edinburgh business R Biomedical to develop Safectin Stem. The product is used in a process called transfection which involves transferring nucleic acids into cells. Deliverics believes the Safectin Stem delivers a 90 per cent efficiency and is now working to get samples into laboratories around the world. Read more here.
